Ewa Ozga
MRC HGU PhD Student
Long lab and Nichols lab
Main focus of current work
My PhD project is focussed on developing and using a phenotyping platform to unpick genetic causes of craniofacial dysmorphogenesis.
Biography
As an undergraduate student, I completed a research internship in a reproductive cancers lab and a summer research project at The Institute of Regeneration and Repair (IRR) funded by the Gurdon Award from the BSDB. My project focussed on understanding congenital disorders by modelling human gastrulation in vitro. I moved on to complete a Bachelor’s thesis in Prof Jamie Davies’s lab focussing on mechanical forces in early development. I graduated with a BSc Hons (1st class) in Medical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh before moving to the MRC Human Genetics Unit at the University of Edinburgh for my PhD. I completed my first rotation in Dr Hannah Long’s lab creating an in vitro model for studying craniofacial malformations. My second rotation supervised by Dr Luke Boulter looked at mechanical forces in regeneration and cancer. I now have begun my PhD project under the supervision of Dr Hannah Long and Prof Jennifer Nichols.
Outside the lab
I like creating art, volunteering in science communication and outreach, and learning languages.
